Black Cap Hot Sauce is a 100% natural, living culture fermented hot sauce made by Jack and Nicki Moore in Columbus, Ohio.  The namesake stemmed from blind taste tests with family and friends to finalize the recipe. One unmarked test bottle had a black cap, and the other had a white cap. As taste tests began, “Black Cap” was the undisputed winner, and the product named itself!

Our ingredient list is clean: Fresno peppers, garlic, ginger, lime zest, salt, chia seeds, and water - that's it.  We preserve the live probiotic cultures in our sauce, as well as the big, bold, funky flavor that only a living culture ferment can deliver.

Sauce ships ONCE WEEKLY to minimize carrier window. Cold packed, sealed, and shipped 2-Day Air or overnight. Delivery can be expected within 10 days of placing order.

REFRIGERATE UPON RECEIPT:

It's Alive! Living culture fermented products may be unrefrigerated for a few days. Once received, pop your sauce back in the fridge. You may notice some pressure once opened. No spoilage here, just a little *chef's hiss* from the active cultures.

Why Black Cap?

Through your support, we amplify the health and wellness benefits of creating and consuming fermented foods.  “Preserving a culture” is our mission, and that goes beyond preserving the live probiotic, gut-friendly culture in our sauce.  It extends to our sustainability practices, like sourcing local produce whenever possible, composting all food waste, and using recyclable glass bottles and metal caps.  Our living culture, small batch ferments reflect our local agricultural system, supporting local farmers and sharing our collective food journey with you.

We wanted to make hot sauce that is not only delicious, but good FOR us, too.  Our 100% natural ingredients are fermented in ridiculously small batches, bottled by hand, and delivered or snagged at a retailer near you.
